Michael Schiavi is one of our newest members at BostonYPA, making this a great opportunity for us to introduce him to you! Michael is a Financial Advisor at Wealth Planning Resources, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and has earned his BA inn Finance & International Business from Saint Anselm College.

Below you can learn more about Michael - at our next event be sure to say hello and introduce yourself!

What are your current responsibilities and background?

After graduating from Saint Anselm College in 2016, I started my career with Commonwealth Financial Network and was fortunate to meet John and his team at Wealth Planning Resources in the fall of 2018. I completed my financial planning schooling at Boston University, sitting for and passing my CFP® exam in 2020. As a financial advisor with WPR, I focus on helping our clients implement and maintain their corporate retirement plans, individual financial plans, and investment and insurance portfolios.

Tell us more about your job or company - what led you to this focus?/ Why did you pursue a career in your industry?  What do you like most about it?

Growing up in a blue-collar town where you work hard from a young age, the value of money was ingrained in me. Through observation and personal experiences, it was clear that many individuals work very hard for their money but don’t fully understand how to make their money work for them. My goal is to help people understand and optimize their wealth during their working years, so they can live comfortably in retirement. Helping our clients reach their goals is extremely gratifying.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Or a mantra you live by?

“You’d worry less about what people think about you if you knew how seldom they do”

This was one of the best pieces of advice I ever received from my football coach while at Saint Anselm College. So many times, we worry too much of what other people think, and often, change our actions to fit these narratives. Do more of what makes you happy!

What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?

The biggest piece of advice I can give to someone new to my industry is to continue to find opportunities to learn. The field of financial advice is constantly changing, and there are always new strategies and information you can add to your arsenal. Just when you think you’ve mastered a topic, dig deeper!

Who are your ideal clients?  Where can they find you?

My firm doesn’t have an ideal client per se, however there are certain clients we have a greater impact on. I primarily work with young professionals starting to accumulate wealth, families seeking financial security and individuals experiencing big life changes (recently retired/changed jobs, marriage, divorce, financial windfalls etc). We also work with small business owners on a range of topics from implementing and managing their retirement plans, to helping with business exit planning.
