The Best Pie in Boston, by Neighborhood

3/14, the day we celebrate Pi by eating Pie! We asked our community to weigh in on their favorite pizza and pie locations in Boston. With so many recommendations, we’re breaking it up by neighborhood. Tonight, if you’re looking for sweet or savory, there’s a delicious option around the corner - and even one that is just $3.14

Beacon Hill: The Boston Cream Pie

The official Massachusetts State Dessert is the Boston Cream Pie, first made at the Omni Parker Hotel in 1855. You can stroll through history with this detour off the Freedom Trail, or go to their website - the recipe is available, and they offer nationwide shipping.

East Boston

The locals know: Santarpio’s is where to go for classic, no frills, but delicious pizza. Family owned since 1903, there’s also a barbecue where you can order meat skewers (infinitely better than the “meat on a stick” you’ll find in Faneuil Hall) for the perfect appetizer while you wait for your pie. On it’s way to landmark status, there’s even a Wikipedia page.

Hyde Park

Travel agents know the best of everything, so when KJ of Trips Travel gave us two recommendations, we knew we had to include them both!

If you’re near Cleary Square, head to Burritos Pizza, and if you’re closer to Wolcott Square, Olympic Pizza has your pie. KJ says that while the pizza isn’t fancy, it’s always cooked perfectly. Just what we need on a Friday when you don’t want to cook.

Jamaica Plain

Pie doesn’t need to have a crispy crust - it can also be made of oreo, nuts, or graham crackers. That’s right, we’re talking about ice cream pie. Born in JP and know for it’s intense flavors, JP Licks now has several locations in Greater Boston. It’s not just sundays and cones - in addition to traditional ice cream cakes, you can customize an ice cream pie to your flavor, crust, and topping specifications.

While our National Puppy Day celebration is 2 weeks away (check our IG!), JP Licks offers the original pupcup in Boston - peanut butter sorbet topped with bone shaped treats.

The North End

With dozen’s of pizza options in the North End, it’s hard to pick just one. The North End is so crowded with authentic, family owned restaurants, addresses aren’t even whole numbers. Regina Pizzeria is located at 11 1/2 Thatcher Street, serving pizza from a brick oven made in 1888. The pizza you’ll wait in line for here is nothing like what you find in the food court locations bearing it’s name.

A short walk away is Galleria Umberto, serving Sicilian style pizza and arancini.

South End

With locations in Southie, the South End, and on the BU Campus, this pizza born in Portland is quickly becoming the shop in Boston to go to when you want creative yet comforting toppings. Sure, some classics are available, but don’t you want to try the Mashed Potato, Bacon, and Scallion Pizza that Matt recommends?

Theater District and the $3.14 pie

Remember when Blaze pizza first came to Boston and gave our Halloween Bash attendees pizza vouchers? We do - and we’ve been going back ever since for the customizable thin crust pizza that is fresh and out of the brick oven within minutes. They aren’t giving us free pizza this time, but everyone who has their app by midnight today can enjoy a pizza for $3.14 this month. Locations in Allston, Fenway, and the Theater District.
