He and his experienced team can access many of the loans that are part of MA's first time home buyer programs and advise you on what kind of loan suits you best!

Now, let’s meet Vernon!

What are your current responsibilities and background?

As the owner and manager of our Mortgage Brokerage in Massachusetts, I oversee a dedicated team of 40 professionals committed to assisting homeowners, both seasoned and first-time buyers, in navigating the complexities of financing their dream homes, and real estate portfolios. With over two decades of experience in the banking industry, particularly within the mortgage sector, I bring a wealth of expertise to the table. Beyond my professional endeavors, I am deeply engaged in giving back to the community through active participation in various non-profit organizations, including the Friends of Jack Foundation, Junior Achievement, United Way of Greater New Bedford, and several others.

Did you grow up in Boston? If not, what led you here?

I originally grew up in Philipston, MA → As an adult I now reside in Dartmouth,MA where I have settled with my wife and two children.

Tell us more about your job or company - what led you to this focus?

In March of 2019, I decided to take a leap of faith and open my very own mortgage brokerage, Milestone Mortgage Solutions, headquartered in New Bedford, MA. with the hopes that I can provide the best client experience to my clients and team members. As a Loan Officer and President of Milestone, I strives to assist not only my clients purchase their perfect home but also to assist those in my local community.

Coming up on our five year anniversary, we have helped over 3,000 families secure financial freedom in real estate and we are lucky to have been named Massachusetts, #1 Mortgage Broker for the second year in a row by the #1 Wholesaler in the Country, United Wholesale Mortgage.

Do you have a secret weapon? Special skill?

I believe if I do the best I can every day, tomorrow, I will always be a better version of myself.

I try my best to always go out of my way to help someone as it may be something little to me, but could be life changing for the person on the other side. As a sophomore in high school, my Coach said to us “Hold the door for the person behind you every time, because it may be just what they need to make their day better and it will show your character.” I have held every door since.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Or a mantra you live by?

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?

My top advice would be to seek out a seasoned mentor who is willing to guide you and share their knowledge. A good mentor can provide invaluable insights, help you navigate challenges, and accelerate your learning curve as you learn the everchanging world of mortgages.

Additionally, don’t shy away from diving headfirst into challenging situations. In an industry where uncertainty and change are constant, those who are willing to embrace challenges and take calculated risks often emerge as the most successful. Instead of avoiding difficult situations, see them as opportunities for growth and learning.

What are three things you like to do in your free time?

○ Spending time with my wife, Susan Miles and two children, Liam and Olivia.

○ Enjoy a Celtics game at TD Garden.

○ Hitting the slopes with my family and friends in Jackson, NH.

In The BostonYPA Community

When/how did you become involved with BostonYPA? How has this affiliation helped your career?

I was introduced to BostonYPA by one of my friends and financial planner, Sam Philbrook. Through this introduction, I have been given the opportunity to meet new professionals across the Boston area that have opened my eyes to new opportunities and experiences.

What do you enjoy most about being a member?

One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a member is the invaluable opportunity to engage with BostonYPA’s esteemed community of young professionals. It’s a privilege to network and collaborate with individuals who are at the forefront of their respective fields. What truly excites me is the chance to forge meaningful connections with fellow professionals in the Massachusetts area, exploring avenues for mutual growth and advancement.

For those young professionals looking to possibly join, why should they join?

As a professional - every connection counts and being a part of a group like BostonYPA will open doors for you that you couldn’t have imagined & will help you grow as a person and professional in your industry.

What would you like BYPA professionals to know about you/your business? Any news/announcements/events/milestones coming up that you’d like to promote?

As a mortgage broker, we pride ourselves on consistently striving to save borrowers money when purchasing a home. Studies show that a mortgage broker can save a borrower on average of $9,407; highlighting the tangible benefits of consulting with a mortgage broker. As we approach the homebuying season, I strongly recommend considering our services for those seeking preapproval and a smoother purchasing process.
