Member Spotlight: Doug Garbedian
We’re thrilled to introduce you to Doug Garbedian, an account executive at Duffy Insurance. The Duffy Insurance agency has supported BostonYPA for several years by sponsoring our annual Back to Business Bash, and by coordinating insurance discounts for our community. Doug joined Duffy last year, and immediately got involved in BostonYPA - if you haven’t met him at an event yet, you will soon!

Education and Professional Certifications: Doug graduated from Connecticut College and holds a Property and Casualty Insurance License. He’s currently a Lead Account Executive at Duffy Insurance.

What are your current responsibilities and background?
“I help families, individuals, and businesses secure the right insurance. Insurance can be a stressful and overlooked aspect. I help ease that stress by providing top quality service, communication and transparency. I have been an insurance broker since I graduated in 2015.”
Did you grow up in Boston? If not, what led you here?
“I grew up in Salem, MA.and have been on the North Shore my entire life. I currently live in Stoneham with my fiance just outside the city”
Tell us more about your job or company - what led you to this focus?
“I ended up in insurance because I love meeting new people and helping them out. I had an informational interview with an insurance brokerage while I was in college and knew I wanted to follow this career path. Being a broker, you get to interact and meet all different types of people and companies and I really enjoy that.”
Duffy Insurance is a growing, family run agency that began in 1996. Since then we have 5 locations across the North Shore. We strive to create long lasting relationships with everyone we work with.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
"My father always told me to live by the golden rule. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I live by that and bring that philosophy to my work life as well.”
What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?
“My advice would be to work diligently, especially in the beginning. Creating your brand and reputation can take a while. You will make some mistakes along the way, but that is how you learn. Keep grinding everyday and good things will happen. Also, always do the right thing.”
Who are your ideal clients? Where can they find you?
“Any individual or family who is looking to have their insurance evaluated/reviewed. Also, any business small or large who is interested in having their insurance portfolio looked at. We provide top risk management to help protect your bottom line. Also, one specialty niche of ours is commercial and residential property. What are three things you like to do in your free time?
“I love to golf, work out, and hangout with friends and family. Also, I play soccer in Boston with my college and high school friends.”

When/how did you become involved with BostonYPA?
“I became involved with Boston YPA this past year, but Duffy Insurance has been involved for a while. We are exclusive members and sponsors of the Boston YPA and are looking forward to continuing that partnership.”
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
“I love the networking events. Meeting new people, making friends and helping them out is the best part.”
For those young professionals looking to possibly join, why should they join?
“You should join Boston YPA because it is more than just a networking group, it is a family. Since joining, I have made some friends who attend almost every event. As a young professional looking to grow and network, there is no better organization.”
What would you like BYPA professionals to know about you?
“I am always open to helping out or giving advice. If you are looking to get in contact with someone in a certain field (CPA, attorney, mortgage broker, ect…) I am happy to make any introductions I can.”
