Member Spotlight: Rich Hornblower

Meet Rich Hornblower! As one of BostonYPA’s most active members, and easily the one who gives back the most to our community, you’ve probably already heard his name - either in conjunction with an event he sponsored, or a webinar he’s hosted that helps Boston’s Young Professionals afford to become homeowners.

Rich is a Realtor® with Coldwell Banker Realty and received his certifications from Boston University. Before diving into our Spotlight, if you’ve thought about buying your first home but can’t stomach the prices of real estate there are two details about Rich we want you to know.

  • Rich has focused his career on getting young professionals into property they can afford. He’s an expert in the Boston and MA programs we can access, and is the #1 agent in this category. He shares his knowledge freely, and provides extensive details in the webinars he hosts. He’s hosting a (FREE) Guide to Affordable Housing Webinar for BostonYPA on November 16th.

  • If you think there aren’t a lot of “affordable” units in Boston, take note: Rich will be bringing 38 new condos to market in early 2022.

Now, let’s meet Rich Hornblower!

Did you grow up in Boston? If not, what led you here?

I grew up in the Boston area, in Dedham. I went to Boston University, and have lived in downtown  Boston for 20 years.

Tell us more about your job or company - what led you to this focus?

I am with Coldwell Banker Realty in the Back Bay, and I am focused on helping first home buyers. I have seen how hard it is to purchase a property in Boston, and I have made my career on helping others purchase in the Boston area. This includes market and affordable housing.

Do you have a secret weapon? Special skill?

I am a dog whisperer, and have taught my dogs 47 tricks.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Or a mantra you live by?

There can be only one.

What's your most recent win? A moment in your career that you’re proud of?

I am presently working as the sales director on a 38 unit income restricted building in Boston. The building will be ready in 2022.

What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?

I would find a great mentor, and spend time in the office learning from others. I would also make this a focus and not a side gig.

Is there a specific niche you focus on?

I am Boston’s number one real estate agent for deed restricted, affordable resales in Boston. I have helped hundreds of people find affordable housing in Boston. Ask me how I can help you.

What are three things you like to do in your free time?

I have two dogs (Chewie and Han) who I am always at a local park with, and trying to find Boston’s best ice coffees and martinis. Always looking for suggestions.

In the BostonYPA Community

What do you enjoy most about being a member?

I’ve been a member for over ten years, and have met some great friends and business contacts. I also enjoy how there are always events and seminars to take.

For those young professionals looking to possibly join, why should they join?

To meet Jason Mahoney

What would you like BYPA professionals to know about your business?

I work in Boston and the suburbs, and would be happy to chat with anyone. Please follow my Instagram for my latest announcements (@rich.hornblower).

Final Thoughts
