Let’s get to know Alycia Brain!

What are your current responsibilities and background?

I Oversee the set up and execution of all events at Improv Asylum, Asylum NYC, Laugh Boston, and the opening soon Laugh Louisville.

Tell us more about your job or company - what led you to this focus?

I work for Improv Asylum. A Comedy theatre that has been in Boston for over 25 years! I work in the corporate office as the Private Events Manager. The company also owns Laugh Boston, located in the Westin Seaport Hotel. I started working at Improv 15 years ago while I was in school at Suffolk University. I started as an usher, basically getting paid to watch comedy shows. I quickly moved up to manager and ended as the AGM. I left IA to pursue other things for 10 years. I managed a Starbucks, and then a fine dining restaurant in Hingham MA where I oversaw all the private events. Then, as luck would have it, after 10 years away from comedy, I went to see a stand-up show at Laugh Boston. I ran into the owner who not only remembered me but wanted to get coffee and catch up. I always liked and respected him, so it was an easy yes. I quickly found out that “coffee catchup” really meant “job Interview” A few months later I was back! I am so thankful that I made a good impression the first time around….it got me my dream job later in life.

What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?

Start building relationships. Not just with clients or potential clients, though that is very important, but with the people that make the events happen! The caterers, the decorators, the staff, the photographers. These are the people that will be the most helpful to you.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far in your career?

Attention to details is Key! Big picture is important, but it’s the small details that set you apart from others.

Who are your ideal clients? Where can they find you?

Anyone who likes to laugh is my ideal client. They can find me on linked In at or visit our websites www.improvasylum.com or www.laughboston.com
